EXAM RULES & POLICIES

To all Minerals Council exam candidates,
In terms of the Minerals Council exam protocols and following the COVID-19 pandemic, the following arrangements are required for the Minerals Council CoMCert exams:

COVID-19 Requirements

  1. All candidates are to wear their own face masks. Any candidate not wearing a mask shall not be allowed entry into the exam venue.
  2. Exam venues will follow normal site protocols when screening candidates before entering the exam venue. Make sure you arrive on time to allow for these protocols to be implemented.
  3. Hand sanitizer is to be applied to every candidate before entering the exam venue.
  4. Applicable social distancing is to be adhered to all times both outside and inside the exam venue.
  5. All candidates will need to complete and sign a register for tracking purposes due to the COVID19 requirements.

Minerals Council examination room rules

  • Candidates must leave all personal belongings in the designated belongings area. The only items you may bring into the examination room are your approved identity document/passport, pencil(s), eraser(s), pen (black ink), compass, protractor, nonprogrammable calculator and a bottle of water (labelfree).
  • All electronic devices, including phones and smart watches, must be left in the belongings area and must be switched off. Exam centres may use metal detectors to scan for electronic devices. Any candidate who breaches these conditions will not receive an examination result or be eligible for a refund or transfer. While the centre will take all reasonable measures to secure your items in the belongings area, they cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage.

The Minerals Council will not take the responsibility of safekeeping of such devices and will not be responsible if they are lost, stolen or damaged.

  • If it comes to our attention that you have with you in the examination room any of the items mentioned in point B above, you will be immediately disqualified and will be subject to disciplinary action. This could result in your suspension from writing future examinations for a maximum period of two years.
  • Exam scripts are only to be viewed when the invigilator announces that you may open them to start the exam.

As a candidate you must...

  1. Tell the invigilator at once if you think you have not been given the correct question paper or if the question paper is incomplete or illegible.
  2. Raise your hand if you need to ask the invigilator something. Candidates may not ask for, and will not be given, any explanation of the exam questions.
  3. If you have a complaint relating to the delivery of the exam at the examination venue, you must submit your complaint, in writing, to the examination venue and the Minerals Council before you leave the centre on day of the exam. Complaints relating to the delivery of the examination will not be accepted after the examination day.
  4. The answer scripts and relevant ventilation formula sheets must be handed to the invigilator at the end of the examination before you quietly leave the examination room. You may remove the examination question papers and any other rough papers that are not part of your answer sheet from the examination room.

As a candidate you must not...

  1. Talk to or disturb other candidates once the examination has started.
  2. Lend anything to, or borrow anything from, another candidate during the examination.
  3. Eat or smoke in the examination room.
  4. Leave the examination room without the permission of the invigilator.
  5. Leave your seat until all examination materials have been collected and you have been told you can leave by the invigilator.
  6. Engage in any form of malpractice which may damage the integrity and security of the Minerals Council Examination. Malpractice includes, but is not limited to:
    1. attempting to cheat in any way, including using notes of any kind from any source that is not prescribed.
    2. helping another candidate to cheat.
    3. impersonating another candidate or having another candidate impersonate you.
    4. copying the work of another candidate.
    5. disrupting the exam in any way.
    6. reproducing any part of the examination in any medium.
    7. attempting to alter the data on submitted examination documents.

Malpractice

Candidates engaging in malpractice will not be allowed to complete the examination and will be subject to disciplinary action. Any such candidate will be immediately removed from the exam venue and the Minerals Council informed accordingly.

The candidate engaging in malpractice can be suspended from writing future examinations for a period of two years. Further to this the individual’s organisation of employment and/or mentors/coach/line manager will be informed of the transgressions.

Any candidate who engages in malpractice, will not receive an examination result or be eligible for a refund or transfer of the exam monies and may be subject to disciplinary action. Candidates engaging in malpractice may be reported to regulatory authorities and mayhave legal action taken against them.

All candidates are urged to take note of the arrangements and rules as mentionedabove and are advised to adhere to these.
